On October 29, 2012, Hurricane Sandy slams into New York City, plunging much of Manhattan into darkness. It is a surreal scene, walking carefully through lower Manhattan, with only a flashlight for illumination, the pulsing glow of emergency vehicles and the occaisional lights powered by generators. The spectral presence of the architectural monoliths, usually fully lit and full of life, now mostly empty and darkened silhouettes against the skyline.
